Ital Rest

A perfect name to describe a place surrounded by nature. Each room in these thatch-roofed wooden cottages has a front and back verandah and private bath. Two rooms have a queen-sized bed and two rooms have a queen-sized and single bed.

Sit on the front verandah, look across the field and glimpse the sea. Sit on the back verandah, look across the lush gardens and lift your gaze to the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Take a stroll around the gardens and enjoy the variety of flowers and fruit trees. Take a short walk through the field and enjoy a swim in a quiet cove, or enjoy some incredible bird watching at Great Pond located right next door. Over 50 varieties of birds have been spotted there!

With no electricity in the rooms, you experience all the quiet and calmness natural surroundings offer.

Remote rural paradise

Reached only by rental car or some combination of buses and taxis, this rustic, very affordable destination features an almost private, beautiful cove just a short walk away, with sea birds and fascinating rock formations, perfect for dipping and cooling off or lounging and watching the surf. Broad, sandy beaches aren't much farther away. Ital Rest's two cottages sit among lush, tropical food-bearing trees on well-kept grounds. From our second floor porch my wife and I read, or watched birds, the neighbor's goats, maybe a mongoose or two. The cottages are equipped with only candles and battery lamps for light, the kitchen and bathroom taps are cold water only. If you want to make your own meals, there's a propane stove, and Keisha will provide ice for keeping supplies cool. However, we recommend this Jamaica native's truly authentic and delicious Jamaican cooking. She and her partner, Frankie, as well as Jeanne, the owner, are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Conversations with Frankie and Jeanne readily turn political and philosophical. As part of Treasure Beach Women's Group, Jeanne and Keisha work to strengthen and empower the people of this remote rural paradise.
