Sparkling Waters - Villa du Soleil

Villa du Soleil has two air conditioned bedrooms one with a king bed and one with a queen bed, one bathroom, a dining/living room, kitchen, two outdoor decks, and a fabulous verandah which literally hangs over the sea. This verandah includes a double bed, comfy chairs and sofa for lounging, and a table and chairs where you can dine overlooking the sea. Once you step out onto this deck it is hard to leave!

Each bedroom has a door leading out to a wooden sun deck with stairs down to another larger sun deck and thatched roof hut complete with hammocks.

The grounds include a large private pool, brick BBQ, and an expansive grassy area filled with mature fruit trees including mango, ackee, cashew, cherry, coconut, plum and naseberry trees. Villa du Soleil has access to a reef protected beach providing a safe place for swimming snorkeling, and fishing weather depending.

Jamaican Paradise

We stayed at the Villa du Soleil for 10 days (3/17/18 - 3/27/18) and kept pinching ourselves to make sure we weren't dreaming. The location is great for privacy, swimming and snorkeling, and just relaxing to the sound of the waves. Rebecca (Treasure Tours) greeted us upon our arrival and made sure everything was ok. The drive from MoBay was about 2 1/2 hours. Immediately we were greeted by the waves crashing on the shore which stayed with us for the entire ten days. Shantel's cooking was wonderful and included fish stews, jerk chicken, coconut curry lobster, and many fresh Jamaican fruits and vegetables. Papa kept the pool clean and the grounds looking great, and arranged a boat trip to the Pelican Bar. The current can be strong in front of the cottage but was fun to swim against for exercise. The beach was great and the pool was a nice option for swimming as well. The veranda overlooking the Caribbean Sea was our favorite hangout and we ate our meals there. All in all a great place to relax and enjoy a true Jamaican vacation! Treasure Tours did a great job organizing day trips and managing expenses with credit card charges. We hope to return to paradise next year.

Perfect Vacation!

"Perfect" is the word that I have been using to describe our stay at Villa Du Soleil. We loved everything about it! It was so relaxing and a perfect setting to reconnect as a family. We loved the deck because we could be on the ocean without worrying about a sun burn. I actually found myself kind of hoping for rain so that we could have that cozy feeling playing cards or reading books. For any other beach vacation, I would pray for never ending sun but Villa du Soleil is perfect in any kind of weather. We really enjoyed the floats in the pool and watching the birds and butterflies while floating around up there. The beach was also lovely and we appreciated that there was a shallow area for our young daughter. Shantel's cooking was amazing and we loved getting to know her. Papa kept the grounds looking so beautiful. We have already booked our vacation for next year and hope to come back many times. If I had a two year old who liked to climb, I might think twice about this house because I would feel stressed on the deck where a child could climb over the railings. Otherwise, if you are looking for a relaxing, low key vacation, this place is perfect!

We will be back!

My husband and I just returned from our first stay in Treasure Beach and Villa Du Soliel. It was amazing and we will be back. The house, yes it's rustic but that's the charm. If you are looking for a five star resort, this isn't it. But that is what makes Villa Du Soleil wonderful. It is a home. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. The kitchen area has anything you would need. We didn't feel like we were guests visiting, it felt like our little oasis during our stay. Shantal, and Everton (Papa) were fabulous. They take great care of you while you are there. The view from the verandah is breathtaking. I spent so much time out there just taking it all in. The beach is literally steps away. We were there after the torrential rain/flooding so the sea was rough when first arrived but cleared up soon after. There is plenty to see in the reef. Listen to Shantal and Everton's advice when it comes to swimming the reef, they know it well! We very seldom saw another soul on the beach. We also spent quite a bit of time at the pool. Shantal's cooking was so amazing!! We tried to watch her cook at times just to see if we could replicate it at home. We loved spending time talking to her about her family. Anything you need her or Everton will help. The location is secluded, this was a draw for us since this was an anniversary trip. It is a bit of a walk into town (about 20 minutes), but definitely worth the stroll. We were going to rent bikes but we loved the walk. We booked through Treasure Tours. They were also incredible. I will post a review for them on their TripAdvisor page.

Absolutely wonderful!

We did a lot of research (a LOT!) in advance of our visit to Treasure Beach and our stay at Villa du Soleil but we were still amazed by just how perfect a choice it was for us! Treasure Beach is a lovely community and Villa du Soleil was the beach-house of our dreams. Beautiful, private beach and the verandah was amazing. Many thanks to everyone at Treasure Tours and especially to Everton and Shantel (what a great cook!) for giving us vacation memories that will last forever. We very much hope to return one day!

So Relaxing

I guess my husband and I really enjoy Villa Du Soleil – this was our fourth year in a row we have stayed and we are booked for next year! Why do we enjoy it so much? VERY RELAXING - For us there is nothing better than sitting on the veranda in the morning having breakfast looking out at the sea – it is beautiful and never gets old. THE FOOD – OMG the food. Shantel is a great cook – everything she makes is a treat for us from the oxtail, the fish (brown stewed, steamed, escovitch – I don’t think I have a favorite way to prepare the fish they are all wonderful), curry coconut shrimp, chicken, jerk pork – all good. The fruit (naseberry, star apple and custard apple were our favorites this year). THE POOL – Everton (aka Papa) keeps the pool sparkling clean. Everton will also arrange any tours you may wish to take – just ask him about it (Pelican Bar is a must). THE SEA – some years rougher than others, but always fun – we usually snorkel no matter (if it is too rough we just don’t go out far from shore – still plenty to see). Most days we have a private beach – not too much activity there. SHANTEL AND EVERTON – They are wonderful people and we enjoy talking with them learning more and more about their families and Jamaica in general. THE PEOPLE OF TREASURE BEACH – they are very kind, interesting and a lot of fun. No hassle here – you can walk anywhere and you will be greeted with a smile and hello, not a “come look what I am selling.” TREASURE BEACH – we love the community – it is truly a special place. Last but not least – THE ENTIRE TREASURE TOURS TEAM – they truly make everything come together for a great vacation! Villa Du Soleil may not be for everyone – if you are a 5 star resort type person it may not be for you. It is fairly secluded but only about a 10 minute walk to Billy’s Bay and a 20 minute walk or so to Calabash. We usually rent bikes which makes getting around very easy and we get a little exercise too! Always fun to see smiling faces and people waving hello as we ride by. The villa itself is older, but the owners keep fixing things up – every year there is some sort of an improvement. Both bedrooms got new air conditioners this year (which most people will like but we have never used them). Cable TV was added, and they also added Wi-Fi which was huge for us this year. First time on a trip to Jamaica my husband had to bring work with him and the Wi-Fi worked great!!! The inside of the villa is nondescript – two bedrooms (comfortable beds), one bathroom, kitchen (is well appointed with anything you may need – including new blender this year for our banana daiquiris), TV area with couch and love seat and an indoor eating area. It is the outdoor areas which we love – the veranda is awesome. Beautiful views of the sea and down the coastline. If it isn’t too windy we will eat every meal out there. The sunsets are fantastic and at night the stars can really put on a show. There is also a sun deck with a thatch cover (nice to sit under during an occasional afternoon rain) with stairs from the sun deck down to the beach – we only saw a couple other people at the beach the whole time we were there. The pool area - I am now spoiled by having my own pool. Great place to hang out and relax for an afternoon with a banana daiquiri. The pool gets both sun and shade and has a nice view of the sea.

Sublime setting

At Villa du Soleil, you are essentially right on the ocean. The patio overhangs the water & the crashing waves are your soundtrack. Lots of places to hang out... the pool area is lovely & private, the sundeck has both full sun & shady areas, as well as a gorgeous view of the ocean, and the covered patio is very spacious & well appointed with outdoor furniture. Plus, you essentially have a private sandy beach too. The 2 bedrooms both have AC, the wifi was great & there's cable TV too . But overall, there's a rustic feel to the place. You're about a 15 minute walk from Treasure Beach itself & about a 5-10 minute walk to Billy's Bay. There is a cookshop & little bar pretty much right at the end of the long driveway, so you can sample some local flavour. Shantel does a great job of cooking breakfast/dinner & tidying up -- but she leaves you on your own for the day. Overall, this place offers a ton of privacy & relaxation with postcard views of the ocean.

Water babies look no further

Stunning panoramic sea views with sunsets to die for, the location over the water doesn't get better than this and for ocean lovers like us it was perfect. The lovely veranda is really the only room we used in a weeks stay, it's difficult to tear yourself away ! After seeing the land from the sea by boat I'm fairly sure this is the only villa in Treasure Beach that is built out over the water. Although we didn't have kids with us any families with water babies would find this an exciting outdoor playground. Another review mentioned the steps, but I think this would only be an issue for very small children. Keeping it real, the rest of the house did not quite have the same standard of furnishing and decor as the main outdoor veranda, although the bedding and mattress was good quality and comfortable some of the living areas in particular the kitchen and bathroom were a bit rough around the edges, some might think scruffy especially those used to five star luxury, and this is not the place for purists or anyone with OCD. It's a more bohemian, shabby chic sort of vibe. If you can look beyond some of these flaws (dodgy taps, cracked tiles, cupboard doors that don't quite shut) and focus on the positives you will love this place. These small issues are the only reason this was not a five star review but I think it's important that people know what to expect. Location wise we took a bit of a punt as this was our first time to Treasure Beach and it wasn't easy to tell from the map exactly where the place is. The villa is quite a way out from the centre where everything is going on, and for those who don't like being out of the action this is quite remote. It's a good half hour walk into frenchmans beach where you find bars, restaurants etc. It's not an easy walk either, the roads are poor and difficult to traverse, especially in the heat of the day. Another option is to get a taxi but this is unreliable and a bit hit/miss! There is very little going on nearby the villa in terms of other amenities. This is not a problem however if you are seeking isolation and seclusion and don't want to be going out every evening to eat and are content to have the housekeeper cook for you each day. Very nice meals cooked by Shantel by the way. The positives that come with the location are that you are almost guaranteed to have the beach, reef and sea to yourself. The caretaker Papa was very helpful in organising trips for us, he took us snorkelling out on the reef the first day to show us the best spots, and will arrange boat fishing and spear fishing as well as trips to Black River and The Pelican Bar (essential trip). On our last night he made a bonfire on the beach and we had music and rum to see us off which was a lovely end to the holiday. Having spent one very happy week in Negril first, Treasure Beach is a total contrast and will allow you to see the real Jamaica and have a very different experience. It was all good, but this place is special. I love this Country, and the people of Treasure Beach are truly wonderful folk who are the best advertisement for tourism I have ever come across.

Great stay in Treasure Beach!

This was our first time in Treasure Beach and Villa du Soleil was the perfect place! It was huge; we were there as two couples and had more than enough space.

Things we loved:

The outdoor spaces including the bed on the verandah overlooking the bay.

Shantell, the cook, who made A-mazing food (oxtail, curried goat, escoveitch fish).

Quiet place

The beach (able to swim right there).

Nice walk into "town." The drinks at Jake's are unbelievable (fresh lime juice!).

Able to coordinate tours with Rebecca directly - great, safe drivers.

did not disappoint! villa du soleil

The reviews are quite descriptive and we can confirm that everything said is accurate. This place is NOT for small kids or people who cannot handle steps because the steps are central to this place. There are steps up to the huge, clean, pool with a palapa and pano view. There are steps down to the huge veranda with its own palapa, shower and pano view. And a few stairs down to the beach! The surf was rough but they say it was the Christmas wind and that it can be quite tranquil. The warm breeze was awesome! We spent almost all of our time on the covered deck. We can also confirm that Shontel is an excellent cook and made our stay particularly pleasant. She consulted with us about our preferences and included local treats. Delicious! We paid for groceries and tipped her. For us it totaled less than $40 a day per person including alcohol. She cooked and served breakfast and dinner and there were always plenty of leftovers for lunch. She let us go to Black River with her to go to the grocery. Normally a sleepy little town but the week before Christmas, it was quite exciting! We were about the only tourists there and yet we were never approached by beggars. After the market we stopped at the Pattie store for a beef meat pie, incredibly tasty and flaky. Also worth mentioning is the support of the Treasure Tours staff who promptly answered any and all questions in selecting the villa and then again preparing us for our arrival. They sent the van to Montego Bay to pick us up and Kenny was as friendly as they come. He stopped on the way for a pit/beer stop. Anything you might need, he can help. Rebecca personally stopped by several times to help resolve our internet issues (the only problem we had). She arranged for us to get to Smurf's for Christmas dinner (no view but awesome food) and drove us home when our driver got delayed. Omar drove us back to Mobay with a pit stop. As to the unit itself, the covered deck is huge with unobstructed view in every direction. We ate all of our meals on the patio table on the deck. We saw the Christmas full moon rise red over Treasure Beach and got up at 5am to see it set orange over the water. We watched movies at night in the cozy living area, did not use the dining area. We were concerned about the 3 of us and one bathroom but it never was a problem. The bedrooms are small, bed and dresser and nice sized closet with safe, each with an outside door to the landing and steps down to the veranda.
